Summer will be busy as Alabama’s beach communities prepare to welcome nearly 30 sporting events from June through August with baseball, fishing, lacrosse, softball, volleyball and more. Headlining the summer’s schedule is the United States Specialty Sports Association Global Sports World Series, which will bring in more than 700 baseball teams and approximately 200 softball teams to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
“The summer is a peak time of year for sports,” said Beth Gendler, vice president of sales for the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission. “We host thousands of athletes and their families as they experience Gulf Shores and Orange Beach on and off the fields. The majority of the events slated this summer are USSSA-related. This incredible sports organization has been a great partner for us, and we are thrilled to be its choice destination for the seventh year.”
Founded in 1968, USSSA is the world’s largest multi-sport athletic organization including baseball, basketball, fast-pitch softball, flag football, martial arts, lacrosse, soccer, slow-pitch softball, volleyball and wrestling.
In the summer of 2014, USSSA events brought $20.5 million in direct visitor spending and a total of 46,099 room nights along Alabama’s beaches. The organization’s World Series 2 will bring more than 220 teams in late June – the largest ever for this event series. Check out the following USSSA World Series lineup:
