One of Foley Sports Tourism’s (FST) biggest events of the year returns this week. The McKenzie ASA Pro/Am hosted by Hoyt Archery is going to run February 22 – 25.
Archery Shooters Association (ASA) President and Tournament Director, Mike Tyrell said the preregistration numbers are even higher than last year so it’s anticipated the Pro/Am will draw more than the 1,898 shooters that came to Foley in 2017.
“This is the first event of our 2018 season and everyone really enjoys the opportunity to come to Foley,” Tyrell said. “We receive tremendous Support from Foley Sports Tourism, the great folks at Graham Creek Nature Preserve, and the entire city of Foley.”
The hospitality isn’t the only thing bringing shooters to Foley. One of the big draws of the event is the money that’s on the line. More than $200,000 in prize money and contingency paybacks from archery companies is going to be given away.
Much of the big money will be given away at the FST Championship stadium on Saturday, February 24, at 5:00 p.m. The ASA Pro Pressure Point Shoot Down is the final round for many of the divisions and checks are presented right after each division finishes. Spectators are welcome to check it out and see the best of the best compete for the win. Visitors are encouraged to get there early as last year’s Shoot Down left not a single seat free.
While Saturday night will be a marquee evening for the event, spectators are welcome throughout its four-day run at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve.
“There will be more than 45 archery companies on hand displaying and in some cases selling the latest and greatest in archery and bow hunting equipment,” Tyrell said. “Local food vendors will be on hand and all the competition ranges are designed to be spectator friendly.”
Foley Director of Recreation and Sports Tourism David Thompson said this is definitely something the community will want to check out.
“This is an event that doesn’t just bring the best of the region or even the nation,” Thompson said. “The McKenzie ASA Pro/Am hosted by Hoyt Archery brings some of the best in the sport period. What our residents will get to see at this event is world-class and we’re so excited for the opportunity to share it with them.”
There is no experience like seeing these shooters in person, however, for those wanting to check it out but unable to make the trip can check out the live video coverage and podcasts from BowJunky Media through both their FaceBook and YouTube pages.
