The USL Championship announced that Birmingham Legion FC will host the fifth annual USL Experience in April 2020. The USL Experience is an elite multi-day residential event which introduces Super Y League’s top players to the daily lives of professional soccer players.
“We’re looking forward to hosting the Super Y League and bringing the USL Experience to Birmingham in 2020,” said Legion FC President and General Manager Jay Heaps. “The quality of youth soccer in Birmingham and across the country continues to improve, and we’re excited to bring these prospects into our professional setting so they can experience a high level of play and realize what they’re striving toward.
“Fresh off our inaugural season in the USL Championship, it will be a valuable learning experience for everyone involved, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to continue to play a role in the expansion and growth of the game.”
Super Y League will invite 72 of the nation’s best young players to head to Birmingham, Alabama to take part in this unique experience. Players will receive invitations in January 2020.
The USL Experience provides additional educational programming, such as workshops and presentations, a stadium and facility tour, access to Legion FC players and staff, competitive training, match play and much more. They will also have meals, lodging and Capelli Sport training gear provided at no cost.
“We’re delighted to have Legion FC host next year’s USL Experience,” said Super Y League Vice President Joel Nash. “The top Super Y League players from 2019 will have the unique opportunity to see what it takes to achieve their professional soccer dreams. The club brought great things to Alabama in its inaugural USL Championship season, and the Legion coaches and players will make excellent mentors.”
Birmingham Legion FC joined the USL Championship as an expansion club ahead of the 2019 season and qualified for the Eastern Conference Playoffs. The team earned its first ever playoff win over North Carolina FC on October 23. Legion FC plays its home matches at the 5,300-seat BBVA Field.
