Foley Sports Tourism Complex is quickly becoming a hub for soccer. The first week of November will be no different. The Sun Belt Women’s Soccer Championships will be in town, with tournament play beginning Wednesday, November 1. The Alabama Soccer Association will also be heading to the complex for their State Cup the weekend of November 4 to 5.
Sun Belt
For the second year in a row the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Soccer Championships will be held at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex. This year all eyes will be on the South Alabama Jaguars as they look to garner their fifth straight conference title. There are seven other teams in the tournament looking to upset the Jags- Little Rock, Arkansas State, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Texas State, Georgia Southern, and Troy.
The tournament begins on Wednesday, November 1, with games starting at 10 a.m. and running throughout the day. Everything is on the line for every single game because it is a single-elimination championship and one false move means the end of a season.
Admission is free and spectators are welcome to attend. A full tournament schedule can be found on the Sun Belt Conference website. For those who might not be able to make it, all games are being streamed on ESPN3.
Alabama Soccer Association
While collegiate play is going on, youth soccer will also be taking over the complex. The Alabama Soccer Association’s State Cup Final Four will be going on November 4-5. The tournament brings the best club soccer teams in the state to compete for the top prize.
Both girls and boys of a range of ages will be competing. They are expecting more than 100 teams. In between games, the teams have the opportunity to watch the Sun Belt Championship games.
Like Sun Belt, this is the second year in a row ASA has brought the State Cup to Foley. The complex hopes to continue this relationship as well.
“We know that Foley has something special to offer events,” said FSTC Director David Thompson. “It is our goal to offer the best customer service and put on world-class events to keep them coming back and keep bringing tourism dollars to the city.”
