The 2nd Annual Gulf Coast Challenge Powered by the Mobile Sports Authority will be held September 28, 2019 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, as jointly announced by officials with the Gulf Coast Challenge (GCC) and the Mobile Sports Authority (MSA).
The event follows the success of the 2018 football game pitting teams from two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). The 2019 game will feature the Alabama A&M University Bulldogs hosting the Central State University Marauders in a Southwest Athletic Conference vs. Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 PM. This will be the seventh time Alabama A&M and Central State University, based in Wilberforce, Ohio have played with Alabama A&M holding a 3-2-1 record.
"College Football is a huge event in the South and having the opportunity to host this event for the 2nd year speaks volumes for our area. Last year's inaugural Gulf Coast Challenge was a big success and, once again, we anticipate football fans flocking to Mobile to partake in the events of game week," said Tim Hale, Executive Director of the GCC.
"We are very excited to be hosting another HBCU Fall football weekend in Mobile. If last year's Gulf Coast Challenge is any indication, we expect this event to be one that alumni and fans of both schools will not want to miss, as we're putting together another fun-filled week of events for all to enjoy," stated Danny Corte, Executive Director of the Mobile Sports Authority.
Tailgating is slated to begin the morning of game day leading up to the 6 PM kickoff. The game will be preceded by a week of festivities that include a Kickoff Party in the Park, College and Career Fair, Pep Rally, and the GCC Parade. There will also be events for alumni and dignitaries. All event details and ticket information will soon follow.
