Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama, will host Beach Handball Championship from April 24-26.
Youth squads and men’s and women’s adult teams from Europe, the Middle East, Colombia and the U.S. will compete throughout the weekend for fast-paced handball match-ups. The 2014 tournament was the first of its kind for this growing Olympic sport. Note that beach handball involves two teams passing a ball, trying to throw it into the opponents’ goal. Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft is expected to present the Mayor’s Cup to the winners, and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three in the men’s and women’s divisions.
The venue will be Gulf Shores Public Beach at The Hangout (101 E. Beach Blvd.)
Hours will be as follows:
- Friday: 10:30 a.m. to noon; 1:30-3 p.m.; 5:30-6:30 p.m.
- Saturday: 10:30 a.m. to noon; 1:30-3 p.m.; 5:30-7 p.m.
- Sunday (finals): 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
