Montgomery Whitewater Park, Alabama’s premier outdoor adventure destination, will welcome the world’s top paddlesport athletes March 21-23, 2025, as it hosts the 2025 Pan American Championships in canoe slalom and kayak cross with around 60 international athletes from across North and South America in attendance. The American Canoe Association has sanctioned the competition, which serves as a key international ranking event and gives fans the chance to watch elite athletes tackle the park’s dynamic whitewater course.
Canoe slalom races are scheduled for March 21 and 23, while the fast-paced kayak cross competition will take place March 22. Spectators can also catch a behind-the-scenes look at training sessions, which will be open to the public from March 9-17.
“We are thrilled to bring the Pan American Championships to Montgomery Whitewater Park,” said Jed Hinkley, slalom competition director for the American Canoe Association. “This venue proved itself as a world-class competition site when it hosted the Olympic trials last year. It’s an ideal location for top-tier events, offering both challenging whitewater features for athletes and an exciting experience for spectators.”
The event is free for spectators. In addition to the competition, visitors can explore the park’s whitewater rafting, Canopy Ridge Traverse aerial ropes and zipline courses, rent mountain bikes, hike scenic trails and enjoy on-site dining and retail options.
“Hosting the Pan American Championships is an incredible honor for Montgomery Whitewater Park,” said Jeffrey Gustin, CEO of Montgomery Whitewater Park. “This event not only brings world-class competition to our region but also introduces more people to the sport of paddling, encourages outdoor adventure and generates significant economic impact for Montgomery. We look forward to welcoming athletes, fans and outdoor enthusiasts to experience everything our park and community have to offer.”
Montgomery Whitewater Park is one of only three Olympic-caliber pumped whitewater courses in the United States, making it a leading destination for both elite paddlesports and outdoor recreation. This event further solidifies the park’s reputation as a top competition venue and highlights Montgomery’s growing status as a hub for adventure sports tourism.
