Event Expected to Have Significant Economic Impact

The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce Convention & Visitor Bureau (CVB) is proud to announce the City of Montgomery will host the inaugural Capital of Dreams Triathlon and Kids Duathlon April 27-28, 2013. Produced by Team Magic, this event will be the first of its kind held in Montgomery and the River Region.

“The Capital of Dreams Triathlon and Kids Duathlon is going to be such a huge economic opportunity for Montgomery,” said Dawn Hathcock, Vice President of the CVB. “Not only are we are expecting 500 competitors, who will bring friends and family members, but this event will set the stage for more sporting events of this caliber to take place in Montgomery.”

Team Magic, a professional multi-sport event management organization, was attracted to Montgomery’s riverfront and downtown for this event because of its natural beauty and historical significance.

Triathlon competitors will compete in three distinct divisions: swimming, biking and running.  For athletes competing in the intermediate (Olympic) distance event, the respective distances are 1.5K, 40K, and 10K. The sprint distances are 400m, 20K, and 5K. The kids Duathlon event distances vary.  Participants will swim in the Alabama River, beginning at Riverfront Park, bike along Maxwell Boulevard and run through downtown. The run course includes notable historical markers in the area: Rosa Parks’ bus route, Court Square, the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church and the Alabama State Capitol building. The bike staging area will be located at the Union Station Train Shed and the finish line will be at Riverwalk Amphitheater.

For non-competitors, volunteer opportunities are available.  To get involved, contact the CVB at 334-261-1100.  For more detailed course information and registration, visit www.team-magic.com.
