The Crimson Tide and the South Alabama Jaguars will represent the state of Alabama in the first-ever Division I Sand Dollar Classic Feb. 5-8 at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. Hosted by the City of Gulf Shores and The Fieldhouse of Daphne, this season-opening tournament will feature collegiate softball teams from across the Southeast and Texas.
"We are very excited to welcome the Sand Dollar Classic to Gulf Shores," said Grant Brown, Grant Brown, recreation and cultural affairs director for the City of Gulf Shores. "Hosting a softball tournament featuring this level of play and completion creates an unprecedented opportunity for our community to showcase our quality facilities being enjoyed by players, coaches and fans. We encourage locals and vacationers to come and cheer on these incredibly talented athletes."
Participating teams include Eastern Kentucky University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Houston Baptist University, Jackson State University, Lamar University, Liberty University, McNeese State University, the University of Alabama, the University of Houston, the University of South Alabama and the University of Southern Mississippi.
Fans may purchase one-day passes for $12 and tournament passes for $30 with children 5 and under admitted free. Those purchasing 20 or more one-day passes will receive a $10 per ticket rate (only applies to one-day passes). Attendees presenting a valid military ID as well as seniors 65 or older will receive discounted $10 one-day passes. A VIP Fan Experience pass for fans over age 21 is available for $100 and includes four days of softball action as well as access to a heated lounge with complimentary food, alcohol and more. The VIP Fan tent will be open for two hours between games throughout the weekend.
