A total of 10 teams from around the Southeastern Conference (SEC) begin their quest on Monday, Nov. 3 for the SEC Women’s Soccer Championship title on the Alabama Gulf Coast. As talented women take the fields at the Orange Beach Sportsplex from Nov. 3-9, locals are encouraged to check out the action and cheer on their favorite SEC team.
“It’s an honor to host a major collegiate event in our destination along with the City of Orange Beach, and we encourage locals and visitors alike to cheer on these incredible female athletes,” Beth Gendler, vice president of sales for the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission, said. “Sports tourism plays a huge role in our market, and local support is vital to these teams having a great experience.”
In addition to the championship, U6 through U18 boys’, girls’ and co-ed teams will face off in the action-packed 2014 Alabama Soccer Festival presented by Aloha Hospitality from Nov. 8-9. In the middle of an intense week of collegiate soccer, fans attending the festival will be able to celebrate these rising youth soccer stars.
“The Alabama Soccer Festival allows our area to celebrate youth athletes and gives these players the chance to get up close and personal with collegiate play,” Gendler said. “These rising stars refine their skills during soccer clinics and watch college athletes compete for the SEC title.”
SEC games are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 3; Wednesday, Nov. 5; and Friday, Nov. 7 as teams vie for the crown at the sportsplex. The championship match is set for Sunday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. CST and will be broadcasted live on ESPNU. Tickets will be available at the gate for $5 per adult per game and $2 for children (K-12) per day. Soccer festival participants may attend games at no additional charge.
