Twenty-five athletes are scheduled to compete in the USA Skeleton National Push Championships on Monday, September 11th in Calgary, Canada at Calgary's Indoor Ice House.
Unlike bobsled, USA Skeleton National Push Championships are not mandatory for athletes and cannot negatively impact an athlete's selection to the national team. Regardless, many of the nation's top athletes are set to compete, including eight members of last season's national team.
On the men's side, two-time Olympian John Daly (Smithtown, N.Y.), who raced on every circuit last season in the midst of coming back from a two-year hiatus from the sport, will compete. Before his retirement from the sport, Daly won the 2012 USA Skeleton National Push Championships. Additionally, last year's push champion Dakarai Kongela (Suquamish, Wash.), in his second year of skeleton after transitioning from bobsled, will look to defend his title.
For the women, World Cup athletes Annie O'Shea (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Kendall Wesenberg (Modesto, Calif.) are slated to compete against a strong field that includes last year's runner-up and third-place finisher in Kristen Hurley (Columbia, Conn.) and Veronica Day (Vienna, Va.), respectively.
