The NCAA announced the hosts of nearly 450 championship tournaments from 2022 to 2026, including the announcement that the City of Surprise, in partnership with the Pacific West Conference, will host the 2026 NCAA Division II Men's & Women's Tennis Championships.
The NCAA received more than 3,000 bid submissions from NCAA member schools, conferences, sports commissions and cities vying to host predetermined rounds for 86 of the NCAA’s 90 championships.
The Division II Men’s and Women’s Tennis National Championships return to Surprise after a successful event in 2018 and the upcoming Championships in 2021. The Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex is also the annual home of PacWest Championship tennis tournament since 2014.
“The City has developed a strong partnership with the NCAA, and we are honored to host the 2026 Tennis National Championship. Our City continues to grow its brand as a championship destination in the Southwest, and this recognition reinforces that,” said City of Surprise Sports and Tourism Director Kendra Pettis. “None of this would be possible without our host partner, the Pacific West Conference. I want to thank Commissioner Bob Hogue, as well as his staff and student-athletes for their continued support and commitment to our city.”
The NCAA Division II Men's & Women's Tennis Championships are two concurrent 16-team single-elimination team tournaments. The qualifiers are the two finalists from each of the division's eight regions. The PacWest has won 10 national championships in men's and women's tennis with the most recent being Hawai`i Pacific University’s men's tennis title run in 2016.
NCAA Championship event awards are based upon specifications that include, but are not limited to, providing optimal facilities; ease of travel to the location and ample lodging; and adherence to NCAA principles, which include providing an atmosphere that is safe and respects the dignity of all attendees.
The sites were selected by the respective NCAA sports committees and approved by the divisional competition oversight and championships committees.
