Calling all mountain-loving adventurers: the 16th annual GORE-TEX Kahtoola Uphill event is now open for registration! Mark your calendars for a fun-filled day at the Uphill on Saturday Feb. 11, 2023. For sixteen years, the Uphill has offered racers (of all ages) the opportunity to tackle Arizona Snowbowl’s mountainous slopes on foot (use of spikes, skis or snowshoes allowed) while raising money for Arizona-based non-profit, Friends of Camp Colton.
Registration closes on race day or once the event is sold out. Adventurers can choose to race individually or as a team of four. Creative costumes are encouraged at this family-friendly event with race categories ranging from the easy Fun Climb, to the more challenging Midway or the Lumberyard Brewing Company Agassiz Climbs.
Fundraising and direct donations can be made via the event’s website and 200 tickets are now available to purchase for the event’s legendary “Golden Raffle” featuring 20 awesome prizes valued at over $500 each. All race registration and raffle proceeds benefit youth environmental education programs through Friends of Camp Colton.
“Each winter we look forward to creating a safe, festive and fun Uphill event and love that it has become an annual tradition here in Flagstaff,” said Danny Giovale, Founder and Owner of Kahtoola. “Coming together as a community to raise money for Friends of Camp Colton is a positive experience for everyone involved. Whether you enjoy the thrill of racing up the mountainside or cheering from the sidelines, just knowing that your afternoon on the mountain will result in local children benefiting from youth environmental education programs in the future is an awesome motivator.”
After the race finishes, participants and spectators gather to enjoy food and festivities around cozy outdoor fire pits at the Arizona Snowbowl’s Fremont Restaurant & Bar, the event’s start/finish location. To-date, the GORE-TEX Kahtoola Uphill event has raised over $500,000 to help educate the next generation of environmental stewards.
