U.S. Men's Field Hockey Team Announces Updates to Five Rivers Tournament Squad

Following a training camp in the middle of October that took place in Spring City, Pa., the Junior U.S. Men’s National Team Staff has selected the 18-athlete squad to play in the Five Rivers Tournament in Glendale, Ariz. from January 13 to 15, 2023.

 

“We are very excited to take the team to Arizona and compete in what will be a very good level of hockey,” said Pat Harris, U-21 USMNT Head Coach. “It will be an important event that will serve both as preparation and selection moments for the group leading up to the Junior Pan American Championship in April.”

 

An annual event since 2001 held in the spring, the Five Rivers Tournament, formerly known as the Cactus Classic, is organized and run by the Phoenix Scorpions club features more than 40 teams from across the United States, Canada, England and Mexico from U-13 through adult men and women divisions. There are cash rewards for first and second place finishers.

 

The Junior USMNT will arrive on January 11 for two days of training prior to the start of the tournament.

The non-traveling alternates are Nicholas Campbell (Medfield, Mass.), Koehl Comiskey (Dallas, Pa.), Taine Dry (St. Louis, Mo.), Jaden Henry-Brooks (Moorpark, Calif.), Luke Jackson (Brenwood, Tenn.), Mees Kloen (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and Ben Theising (Fillmore, Calif.).

 

At the training camp from October 14 to 17, members of the Junior USMNT played in matches against Canada’s Eastern High Performance group from the two centers in Ontario and Quebec. The Junior USMNT has another training camp from December 3 to 4 in Charlotte, N.C.
