On April 26 and 27, The Northern California Youth Rugby Association (NCYRA), in conjunction with Placer Valley Tourism, will host the 10th Annual Northern California Invitational Rugby Tournament (NCIT) at Cherry Island Soccer Complex. For the second year running, a middle school (under 14) division will be added, and it will again include NCYRA Playoffs and Championships to keep the play at the highest of levels.
There will be as many as 50 teams from all over the state coming to compete in this rugby tournament that seems to grow in popularity every year. Jesuit High School is the favorite in the Single School Varsity Division, and they will be looking to take home the trophy. However, given the general level of play in the region, the competition is wide open in all of the other divisions, and the teams can expect high quality and competitive matches.
Each team will play 2-4 games during the course of the tournament, depending on if they move onto a championship/consolation game or not. This is a family friendly event that is open to the public, and begins at 9 A.M. on both Saturday and Sunday. The division matches are held on Saturday, while the semi-final, consolation, and championship matches are held on Sunday, so there will be plenty of Rugby action all weekend!
