On May 17 and 18, some of the top track athletes in the nation will come to Whitney High School to take place in the annual Pacific Association Youth Championships (PAC) for track and field. This event is only for athletes who are members of the PAC, whose boundaries stretch from the California-Oregon border on the north end to San Luis Obispo in central California on the South. The east boundary stretches just beyond the Reno, Nevada area.
Last year, an amazing 1,200 youth athletes participated in this event that continues to increase in notoriety year in and year out. The age groups featured in this event include U6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, and 17-18. The running events that will be taking place include the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, 4x800m relay, and the 1500m and 3000m race walks. The field events include long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, hammer, discus, shot put, javelin and the turbo javelin. With so many age groups and so many events there will be plenty of breathtaking track and field action all weekend!
This is the largest youth track and field meet in the Placer area, and it continues to draw more and more athletes. Whitney High School is a new institute that just had their first graduating class in 2009 and has a world class track and field, so be sure to go check out what is happening at this prestigious meet on May 17 and 18!
