It's that time of year where wrestlers are wrapping up their seasons and hoping that it extends into the post season. For many wrestlers in Community College, this means competing at the CCCAA Wrestling NorCal Regional Championships. The tournament returns after its last stop at Sierra College was 7 years ago. Placer Valley Tourism and Sierra College Athletics teams up to bring this top notch event to Placer County.
Every year at the end of the fall wrestling season, athletes hope that they will have the opportunity to compete in the Regionals. Top Community Colleges will be there to compete bringing their best competitors to the mat. The CCCAA NorCal Regionals is on a rotation schedule and hasn't been at Sierra College since 2007 which is win they won their last State title. This makes for an even more exciting post season as Sierra College will get to compete at home.
There will be 10 teams representing the North. They include:
11. Chabot College
12. Lassen College
13. Sierra College
14. Skyline College
17. Shasta College
18. Delta College
The number listed next to each school represents their current state ranking. Clearly this Regional showdown will be intense as these 10 programs have received top marks. Currently ranked number 2, Fresno City College has won the State Championship the last two years and are favored to win a third.
With 20 different schools competing in the CCCAA, making this playoff was tough and assures that the competition at Regionals will be even tougher. There is expected to be about 120 wrestlers representing the 10 institutions over the weekend. All matches will take place on Saturday, December 7th with pre-tournament weigh-ins happening on the 6th.
