The IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells-La Quinta triathlon will return on December 8, 2019 with an updated bike course. IRONMAN notes that the flat course will continue to ‘provide participants with an unforgettable journey past the picturesque palm tree farms and desert vistas.’
The scenic Southern California event will also remain the season finale for the North American circuit taking place on Sunday, December 8 with general registration for the event now open.
“We are excited to have IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells-La Quinta return to the Coachella Valley,” said Paul Huddle, Senior Regional Director for IRONMAN. “We are proud to continue our partnership with Indian Wells and La Quinta and showcase this beautiful region through the updated IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells-La Quinta course.”
The 1.2-mile swim through Lake Cahuilla will remain unchanged and kicks off the IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells-La Quinta triathlon. After transitioning out of the water, athletes will embark on the redesigned 56-mile flat, single-loop bike course.
The new bike course starts by going southeast away from the swim start at Lake Cahuilla and into Riverside County. Athletes will then return to Avenue 58 and head north on Monroe Street, west on Avenue 52, and north on Jefferson Street. Finally, athletes will head back to Miles Avenue, where they will cross Washington Street to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden where they will transition to the run portion of the event.
A two-loop 13.1-mile run course takes athletes from the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens through the Indian Wells Golf Resort and back to a grand finish inside the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens capping off both the event and the season – all beneath the mountain backdrop.
The 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 Indian Wells-La Quinta event will offer 30 qualifying slots to the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in, Taupõ, New Zealand as well as a professional prize purse of US$25,000.
