Nearly 600 middle school-aged wrestlers are expected to compete at the 51st Annual Northern California Tournament of Champions (Norcal TOC) at Del Oro High School in Loomis. Placer Valley Tourism is thrilled to be partnering with Georgetown Wrestling Club again to bring this long-standing and exciting event back to Placer Valley on Saturday, March 2.
Norcal TOC Tournament Director Rod Hedlund explained that due to the large number of wrestlers they have competing they will utilize both gymnasiums at Del Oro running matches on 11 mats all day. Wrestlers will be traveling from as far South as Bakersfield and as far North as the Oregon border as this event is viewed as the premier middle school wrestling event in the state.
"Our new sponsor for the tournament is wrestling apparel company GO EARN IT out of Illinois andLee Kemp who represents the company will attend," stated Hedlund. "Lee was a three-time NCAA champion from the University of Wisconsin, a three-time World Champ and a member of the 1980 USA Olympic team."
GO EARN IT will have a booth set up in Del Oro's large gym at the event and Kemp will be on-hand with the opportunity for wrestlers and fans to meet and talk with this true icon in the national wrestling community.
Hedlund added, "The 50th annual last year was a great event and we look forward to 2019 being the start of the next half century of the Northern California Tournament of Champions!"
