The 37thKaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon will have some special guests: the 1976 USA Olympic marathon team of Frank Shorter, Bill Rodgers and Don Kardong.
The three, who will speak during the Marathon College event that precedes the marathon (scheduled for Sunday, March 1, 2015) were part of the American domination of marathons in the 1970s and early 1980s. Shorter won the 1972 Olympic Marathon and took second place in 1976, while Don Kardong took fourth. During that era, Frank Shorter won Fukuoka (the then world championship marathon) four years in a row: 1971-74. Bill Rodgers won both Boston and New York four times each, and Don Kardong won Honolulu in 1978.
In addition to speaking at the Marathon College, the three will be feted at a dinner.
