In North America, swim run pioneer ÖTILLÖ notes that ‘the sport is beginning to grow with several race organisations leading the way.’ Building on this momentum, the ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series is launching its first-ever race weekend in America.
To launch ÖTILLÖ’s 15th season of swimrun, the race organiser is presenting ÖTILLÖ Catalina. Its first race in America will held on February 29th to March 1st, 2020 – on Santa Catalina Island off the coast of Los Angeles.
Racers in all three distances – Experience (8 km), Sprint (15 km) and World Series (38 km), which start and finish in the small town of Two Harbors – will get a glimpse of ‘spectacular coastal chaparral and crystal-clear waters, home to plant and wildlife species found nowhere else on earth.’
Saturday, February 29th is the day for the Experience and Sprint distances. These races can be undertaken either in a team of two or solo. On Sunday, March 1st – the World Series race kicks off and is a qualifier to the ÖTILLÖ World Championship.
“This race will be very special,” said Michael Lemmel, Race Director ÖTILLÖ & co-founder of Swimrun. “It is a dream come true to finally be able to establish an ÖTILLÖ race in America. It is the right timing to be able to support the growth of Swimrun in the US.”
