California CrossFit enthusiasts and fitness fans can take part in the inaugural SLO County Ultra Games, presented by CoastHills Business Services, taking place October 26 – 27, 2019 at Lopez Lake in Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo County, California.
Over 2 days, athletes of all levels will participate in three separate events, including a strength competition and functional fitness competition on Saturday, and then an endurance competition on Sunday. Athletes can compete individually or in teams of two, as civilians or as first responders and military.
Samantha Pruitt, the Event Director and Founder of RaceSLO, has partnered with local CrossFit and Fitness legends to create a one-of-a-kind experience for competing athletes, as well as fitness fans. The official SLO County Games announcer, Bill Grundler, is a well known commentator, broadcaster and analyst for the original CrossFit Games since 2010. In 2015, he was the 2nd Fittest 45-49 year old in the world, and he’s a World Age Group Winner in CrossFit Open since 2011. He is the Founder and Head Coach at CrossFit Inferno and a retired captain from the CAL FIRE Department.
“I’m extremely excited to be the Official Announcer of the new SLO County Ultra Games,” said Mr. Grundler. “For almost 10 years I’ve been a commentator for The Crossfit Games and most National Fitness Competitions so I know this Central Coast version will be a ‘not to miss’ weekend. All levels of athletes testing their fitness in the rugged outdoors – sure to be a hidden gem!”
RaceSLO’s exclusive Central Coast training partners at Headstrong Fit and Atascadero CrossFit are not only collaborating to produce this new epic event, but are also the official Coaches for the Ultra Games training programs. Official Games Head Coach, Robby McLaughlin and Asst. Coach Sarah Martin, jumped at the opportunity to be an integral part of the athletes and SLO Ultra Games success. The Games training program includes strength, mobility, open water swimming, trail running, obstacle navigation and mental skills.
“The collaboration between our two local gyms and RaceSLO was a no-brainer for us! We share the common goal of creating a lasting impact on as many lives as we can, through the community shared experience of sport and fitness,” said Robby McLaughlin, the owner of Headstrong Fit in San Luis Obispo. Sarah Martin from Atascadero CrossFit added: “The Central Coast is a dream location for anyone who loves doing outdoor fitness and it’s naturally the perfect location for a CrossFit style multi day competition. We can’t wait to help people discover what they are really capable of!”
On top of the three unique Games Events, to ensure they succeed, athletes will experience a first class festival and recovery lounge including massage, icing, CBD products, rolling and taping, stretching, FLUID Sports Nutrition and fresh food.
The SLO Ultra weekend also offers trail and obstacle races, including a 1-mile kids obstacle race, 5K adult obstacle race, half marathon trail run/hike, full marathon trail run/hike, and the ‘Ultra Double’ trail race by doing the marathon on Saturday, followed by the half marathon on Sunday.
All SLO Ultra Trail and Games participants will receive a finishers medal, branded event shirt, goody bag, award opportunities, ample on course Aid-Medical-Directional support and a First Class Festival Finish Line Party.
SLO County Ultra Games and Trail Races benefit the SLO County Sheriff’s Advisory Foundation and SLO County Parks.
