Stockton, California to Host Two US Twirling Association Events

The Stockton Convention & Visitors Bureau (SCVB) is proud to announce a partnership with the United States Twirling Association (USTA) for two upcoming world-class baton twirling events.

Stockton, California will be the host city for the 2012 U.S. Trials, March 30-31, 2012 and the 2014 U.S. National Baton Twirling Championships, July 7-12, 2014.

"California has a history of producing some of the world's best athletes, and producing some of the best twirling athletes is no exception,” said Mark Nash, President of the United States Twirling Association. “The USA's two most recent World Champion teams were comprised of twirlers from California's central valley.” So, it is fitting to hold this competition close to the homes of some of the nation's best twirlers. We are thrilled to be coming to the city of Stockton!"

The prestigious U.S. Trials Program selects Team USA, a group of elite level athletes, to represent the United States in the World Baton Twirling Championships in France in August 2012. The top 60 baton twirlers in the U.S. are expected to compete.

At the U.S. National Baton Twirling Championships, the nation’s best sport baton twirlers compete for National Championships in individual and group events. The 2014 event in Stockton is expected to draw over 800 participants for the six day event.

“We could not be more excited to host these events and bring two major baton twirling events back to California” noted Wes Rhea, Executive Director of the SCVB, “We believe Stockton and the Stockton Arena will be great hosts and we look forward to showing them our local hospitality.”

George Kaplanis, Board President of the SCVB, is excited also about these two events, “We look forward welcoming the twirling athletes, who will compete in this truly artistic and aerobic sport, to our unique destination. These are great events for our community and local economy,” said Kaplanis.
