From February 14-15, the collegiate and club quidditch teams of the West will gather at Maidu Regional Park in Roseville, CA., to compete for the Regional Championship.20 teams and 400 players from 4 states - Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah - will all be in attendance. The top 11 teams will qualify for the US Quidditch World Cup 8, which will be held in Rock Hill, South Carolina this spring.
Real-life quidditch has swept the nation as an intense, co-ed, full-contact adaptation of the sport from the Harry Potter books, with more than 4,000 players, 170 official teams, eight annual championship events, and hundreds of thousands of fans. The sport is played with seven active players on each team: three chasers who attempt to move, pass, or score with the quaffle (a volleyball) by shooting it through any one of their opponents' three hoops, which are guarded by keeper, two beaters who hurl bludgers (dodgeballs) to temporarily knock opposing players out of the game. Each team also has a seeker, who tasked with catching the snitch, a velcro tail attached to the shorts of a swift runner dressed in yellow. The game ends when the snitch is caught by one of the seekers, awarding the team an extra 30 points, equivalent to three goals, and ending the game.
Games will run for two days, February 14-15, at Maidu Regional Park in Roseville, CA. This event will feature music, food trucks, children's activities, and games. Admission and parking are free and open to the public. To learn more about the event and to view attending teams, please visit: http://www.usquidditch.org/about/West-RC
