“We’re extremely excited to be returning to Southern California for the US Open,” said USATT Chief Executive Officer Virginia Sung. “As with all of our major events, USATT’s goal is to offer the largest number of possible options for everyone who is interested in participating in this historic international competition. Of course, USATT is also committed to ensure that the tournament runs smoothly and on time. We received tremendous feedback on last year’s Open in Ontario, and we intend to make this year’s event even more efficient and fun. I believe that anyone who participated in that event can attest to the quality of the Ontario Convention Center which offers such a modern, clean and bright venue for the table tennis experience.”
The 2023 US Open offers thirty-one open and age-group singles events, including the prestigious Men’s and Women’s Singles titles. The reigning US Open Men’s Singles Champion Kou Lei will actually be seeking a “three-peat” after his consecutive wins in 2021 in Las Vegas and his victory last year in Ontario. On the Women’s Singles side, Amy Wang, who recently won the Women’s Singles event in the Pan American Championships in Cuba, will be seeking her second US Open Championship. As with last year, with $10,000 on the line for the winner of the Men’s and Women’s Singles, it is expected that the top slot on the Men’s and Women’s side will be hotly contested.
The 2023 US Open will also offer forty-one different doubles events, including age group doubles that start with the Under-11 group and go all the way up the age-group ladder to the Over-80 Division for Men and Women. There are three Open Ratings Events (U-2600, U-2400, and U-2200) along with ten different levels of ratings events for Adults and ten exclusively for Juniors, which means that there should be plenty of opportunity for fair competition amongst players of all ages and calibers. The 2023 US Open in Ontario will also offer seven events for national and international Para Athletes, including doubles competition for both seated and standing players. There are also fifteen different “classic events” offered for players who want to test their talent at the hardbat and/or sandpaper game. And, as with the last several US major tournaments, USATT has paired with our good friends at PingPongParkinson to offer an open event for persons living with a Parkinson diagnosis.
