Sacramento Capitals Wheelchair Tennis Association (SCWTA) announced their 13th annual tournament will be taking place June 26-28 at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club in Roseville.  This competition has grown to become a Future Series tournament sanctioned by both the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the United States Tennis Association (USTA).  Placer Valley Tourism and Johnson Ranch Racquet Club are excited to have partnered to help host such an important event in Placer Valley.

Approximately 30 players will be competing at this three-day event which begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 26 and will wrap-up in the afternoon on Sunday, June 28. Players from all over the United States and Canada will be competing at this tournament that promises top-notch talent as it is an Open Tournament with primarily Elite and Class A division players.  The tournament will be held at the North side of Johnson Ranch Racquet Club, which is located at 2501 Eureka Road in Roseville.

Wheelchair Tennis is very similar to traditional tennis except that they are allowed a two-bounce rule opposed to one bounce and the athletes use specially designed wheelchairs for the games.  There are three main categories: Men's, Women's and Quad's and each category allows the players to play single or doubles style tennis.

SCWTA was established in 2002 and is run completely by volunteers. They formed to allow both recreational and elite wheelchair tennis players more opportunities to play locally.  Peggy Keefe, a coordinator for SCWTA, explained that the organization's mission is to promote independence, physical fitness, self-esteem and a great camaraderie among fellow athletes, while giving the players opportunity to experience the excitement of competition that wheelchair tennis brings to their lives.
