Tournament officials for the 2023 Cymbiotika San Diego Open Presented by ResMed have extended singles main draw wild cards to American Sloane Stephens and Canada's Leylah Fernandez.The WTA 500 women’s professional tournament is scheduled for Saturday, September 9 through Saturday, September 16 at Barnes Tennis Center, 4490 W Point Loma Blvd, San Diego, CA 92107.The 30-year-old Stephens, a native of Plantation, Fla., won the biggest title of her career in 2017 when she captured the US Open singles championship. In 2018, she achieved a career-high No. 3 in the WTA singles rankings and reached the singles final at Roland Garros.Stephens, currently ranked No. 38 in the WTA singles rankings, has won seven career WTA singles titles. She also represented the United States in Fed Cup team competition from 2012-2014 and was a member of the U.S. Olympic team in 2016. For additional information on Stephens, click here.Fernandez, a 20-year-old Canadian who was born in Montreal, had a breakthrough year in 2021 when she advanced to the US Open singles final. Last year in August, she reached a career-high No. 13 in the WTA singles rankings.Currently ranked No. 72 in the WTA singles rankings, Fernandez represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo and was a member of Canada’s Billie Jean King Cup (formerly Fed Cup) Team in 2019 and 2021-2022.For additional information on Fernandez, click here.“We are very happy to award wild cards to Sloane Stephens and Leylah Fernandez, two WTA superstars who are going to be part of an amazing player field at this year’s Cymbiotika San Diego Open,” said Tournament Director Ryan Redondo. “In addition to exciting WTA tennis, we are planning an incredible week of special events and activities which will be announced soon.”   The 2023 Cymbiotika San Diego Open will offer $780,637 in prize money and have a 28-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw.Qualifying rounds are scheduled to be played September 9-10 with Main Draw matches starting September 11 and concluding with the singles and doubles final on September 16.The starting times for each day of the 2023 Cymbiotika San Diego Open will be as follows:Day 1 Qualifying – Saturday, September 9 – 10 a.m.Day 2 Qualifying – Sunday, September 10 –  11 a.m.Main Draw Day Sessions – Monday, September 11 — Friday, September 15 – 11:30 a.m.Main Draw Evening Sessions – Monday, September 11 — Friday, September 15 – 5:30 p.m.  Doubles Championship – Saturday, September 16 – 1:30 p.m.Singles Championship – Saturday, September 16 – 4 p.m.  (All times are PDT)Tickets, which range from $25 per day for General Admission seating during Qualifying Rounds  to $275 for VIP seating on the final day of the tournament, are currently on sale at SeatGeek.com which can be accessed through the official tournament website at https://wtasdopen.com/.World No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland captured the singles title at last year's inaugural San Diego Open with a thrilling 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 victory over Donna Vekic of Croatia before a capacity crowd on Stadium Court at Barnes Tennis Center. Americans Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula defeated Canada's Gabriela Dabrowski and Giuliana Olmos of Mexico 1-6, 7-5, 10-4 to win the doubles championship.
