Rancho Santa Fe native Taylor Fritz is scheduled to play for the San Diego Aviators in their 2019 World TeamTennis home opener at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 19 at the Omni La Costa Resort Spa, 2100 Costa Del Mar Rd, Carlsbad, CA 92009.
Fritz, currently ranked No. 42 in the Association of Tennis Professionals singles rankings, and the Aviators will face American Sam Querrey, and the Las Vegas Rollers, who are making their WTT debut this season as an expansion franchise.
The 21-year-old Fritz was born and raised in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., and currently lives in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. He defeated former US Open champion Marin Cilic in 2017 at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif., and was named ATP Newcomer of the Year in 2016.
Querrey, a 31-year-old Las Vegas resident, has captured 10 career singles titles on the ATP Tour and has been ranked as high as No. 11 in the ATP singles rankings. He reached the Wimbledon singles semifinals in 2017 and has represented the United States in 14 Davis Cup ties.
“With Taylor in our line-up going head-to-head in singles against a heavy-hitter like Sam Querrey, it’s going to be an incredible opening night for the Aviators and World TeamTennis at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa,” said Coach John Lloyd, who will lead the Aviators for the fifth straight year.
The Aviators roster for the 2019 WTT season includes rising star Astra Sharma of Australia, doubles specialist Jonny O'Mara of Great Britain, American Christian Harrison, and Germany’s Anna-Lena Groenefeld, who played for the Aviators in 2018.
Fritz will also play for San Diego on Saturday, July 20 when the Aviators travel up the coast to meet their Southern California rival, the Orange County Breakers at the Palisades Tennis Club in Newport Beach, Calif. The Breakers will feature former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka in their line-up.

In addition to the Vegas Rollers, the Orlando Storm has joined World TeamTennis this season as an expansion franchise. The Storm will play their WTT matches at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla., while the Rollers will make their home at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
The 2019 WTT regular season, which features eight teams, will be played July 14-31. The top four teams will advance to the WTT playoffs at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, with the semifinals scheduled for Friday, August 2, followed by the WTT Finals on Saturday, August 3.
