· Mobil-branded products have earned more than 40 wins at Pikes Peak dating back to 1934
· Louis Unser’s first win was secured with conventional Mobil oil, and Jeff Zwart’s latest win came under the protection of fully synthetic Mobil 1 motor oil
· Pikes Peak records today are now more than twice as fast as the first record-setting time
ExxonMobil has announced that the Mobil 1 brand has become the Official Motor Oil of Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. This return builds upon the legacy of Mobil-branded products winning on “America’s Mountain.”
This year’s event is focused on deep integration with fans and racers aimed at improving the fan experience. Content displayed on the large LED screen will allow fans in the paddock area to easily engage with up-to-date stats, race times, track temps and the competitor leaderboard. Additionally, exclusive behind-the-scenes content focusing on the Porsche Pikes Peak Trophy by Yokohama class – all vehicles which rely on off-the-shelf Mobil 1™ FS 0W-40 motor oil – will be featured along with the Mobil 1 brand’s partnership with Bentley, who will be competing for a new record with the Continental GT3.
The pedigree of the Mobil brand at Pikes Peak has been unmatched since 1934, when American auto racer, Louis Unser claimed first place. Louis went on to become a nine-time champion using conventional Mobiloil™ lubricants. The first wins were secured on the original dirt surface by more than a dozen manufacturers who went on to have two-decades of consecutive wins exclusively using Mobil™ products.
Following generations of technological developments at tracks around the world, Mobil 1 full synthetic motor oil was introduced commercially to the U.S. in 1974. Hall of famer and legendary Pikes Peak Hill Climb competitor Jeff Zwart also secured numerous victories using Mobil 1 in his Porsche 911s. Today, ExxonMobil scientists and engineers actively work with technology partners like those at Porsche and Bentley, who have set various records at Pikes Peak, to develop the next generation of Mobil 1 products.
“Pikes Peak is the ultimate proving ground in the U.S., much like the Nürburgring in Germany, because of the numerous driving challenges it presents,” said Christian Flathman, global motorsports and sponsorships advisor at ExxonMobil. “The record setting vehicles at Pikes Peak feature the same Mobil 1 products you can buy off-the-shelf and help deliver the performance and protection needed at the extremes found at 14,115 feet of elevation.”
Today, drivers and consumers can also benefit from Exxon and Mobil Synergy™ fuels, which meet the demands of the most advanced engines.
“We’re proud to have had so many of the best brands in the world competing on our mountain over the years, with the Mobil brand having been a part of the bloodline going all the way back to 1934,” said Megan Leatham, executive director of The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. “Over time, we have seen speeds increase dramatically and innovations in technology we couldn’t have imagined. It’s very encouraging to have partners who have been with us since our early beginnings and who continue to showcase the performance potential of Pikes Peak, while improving this incredible experience for competitors and fans alike.”
The Pikes Peak Hill Climb records today are now more than twice as fast as they were when the first record was set. This year’s annual hill climb will serve as evidence once again, that Mobil 1 motor oil is an industry leader in the development of innovative, reliable and high-performance lubricants designed not only for the race-track but the everyday driver.
To connect everyday enthusiasts with those on the mountain, participating Chevrolet and Porsche dealerships nationwide will have the same Mobil 1 products used during the 97th Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb available for oil changes. Consumers who prefer to change their own oil can find these products for purchase at their preferred automotive retailer. In testament to this track-to-street technology, all entries in the Porsche Pikes Peak Trophy by Yokohama class will use Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 motor oil, the same technology found in more than 1,000,000 Porsche vehicles.
If you plan on attending this year’s event, don’t miss the Mobil 1 Performance Experience at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Fast Fest on June 28, 2019.
