The Colorado Springs Sports Corporation continues to set high standards for the Rocky Mountain State Games and aims for another record breaking year.
Last year's edition of the event attracted 10,133 athletes, the second highest total in the 14-year history of the Games. The 2015 RMSG also saw more than 15,000 spectators in attendance at the 40 different sporting events. Over the previous 14 years of the Rocky Mountain State Games, more than 92,000 athletes have participated!
“We are constantly looking for ways to make this event better each summer," said Sports Corp President and CEO Tom Osborne. "The 2016 schedule offers a sport for everyone, including sports that allow families to compete together, and it's a unique opportunity for any athlete to test their skills while enjoying a memorable experience in Colorado Springs."
The State Games concept was developed in New York in 1978 with the Empire State Games. Annually, more than 265,000 athletes compete in State Games nationwide. The State Games feature various sports from the Olympic and Pan American Games programs as well as sports with regional popularity in each state.
Two new sports have been added to the 39-sport lineup for this year's event: Mountain Biking and the Great Inflatable Race.
Registration for athletes is now open and available at RockyMountainStateGames.org along with complete information on each sport, schedules and much more.
