Entries have opened for the inaugural Mavic Haute Route Rockies with Boulder and Colorado Springs announced as the start and finish venues. The event is the first US-edition of the world's highest, toughest and most prestigious amateur cycling challenge.
Organizers are expecting a sell-out for the seven-day stage race that will pit an international peloton of amateur riders against Colorado's most dramatic cycling terrain. The full course, to be announced in July, is set to feature more than 52,500ft (16,000m) of climbing over seven timed and ranked stages covering 550 miles (875km).
All 600 competitors in the Mavic Haute Route Rockies will receive a level of rider support unparalleled in US amateur cycling. Decades of experience supporting the pro peloton in cycling's Grand Tours will aid Title Partner Mavic in providing the ultimate ride-like-a-pro experience.
The event's comprehensive offering includes a convoy of safety vehicles and mechanical support, stage timing and ranking, feed stations and Mavic's exclusive event jersey, arm warmers and bib shorts. Off the bike, competitors can expect daily massages, hot food at the stage finish, daily stage briefings and transfer of luggage to accommodation between stages.
François Vergnol, New Business Development Director of the Haute Route owners and organisers, OC Sport, said: "The proposed course for the Mavic Haute Route Rockies carves through the heartland of American cycling and will feature an unforgettable combination of jaw-dropping scenery and breath-taking climbs.
"This is a unique opportunity for committed amateur cyclists to set themselves a defining challenge, and experience what it means to ride like a professional on some of most incredible cycling terrain in the world."
For a limited time only, entries can be purchased at the reduced price of $2,200 online at www.hauteroute.org. The full entry fee is $2,400. Demand for places is high and riders are encouraged to enter early. Accommodation packages can also be purchased on the Haute Route Website.
Boulder will host the event start on Saturday, June 24th and be home to the race village for rider registration on June 23rd. Suzanne Jones, Mayor of the City of Boulder, said: "Cycling is a calling for so many in Boulder, and I can't think of a more fitting location for the official Grand Depart. The Haute Route is the kind of challenge that epitomizes the can-do attitude that so many here in Boulder have. We welcome more than 600 participants and invite them to enjoy all our city has to offer, both on the race course and off."
