The “2014 Soccer Resort New England Beach Blitz” will be held on Saturday, June 21 on the sand surface of West Haven Beach in West Haven, Conn.
Connecticut joins an increasing number of beach soccer tournaments that are popping up across the U.S. from Santa Monica to West Haven Beach. This is an event for youth teams as well as families.
Participants will compete against youth teams from New York, Massachusetts and New Jersey. Registration is open through June 16 for Boys and Girls divisions, as well as Adult Men’s, Women’s and Coed levels who will compete at the tournament. Together with the Beach Blitz events in Atlantic City, NJ, Ocean City, MD, Long Beach, NY, and Eagle Beach, Aruba, Connecticut’s tournament completes the growing Soccer Resort circuit, providing a great getaway for people of every age.
“Connecticut’s second annual tournament for girls’ and boys’ teams will take place at one of the most natural, family beaches on the Long Island shoreline, and is in convenient driving distance to all major Connecticut cities and lots of family attractions,” explained Niall Swan, Founder and CEO of Soccer Resort, which organizes the event. “West Haven Beach was an obvious choice when we were looking for a family-friendly location, with a shoreline large enough to host a Beach Soccer tournament. We wouldn’t have found it without the tireless beach-hunting of the Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau, and the forward-looking, hospitable West Haven Department of Parks and Recreation,” Swan said.
The 2013 beach soccer season features 105 tournaments nation-wide, with the majority located in California and the North East. The popularity of the beach soccer has been growing rapidly in the North East especially at the Jersey Shore, with participation expanding from a handful of teams in 2002 to more than 1,100 teams at some tournaments in 2013.
“As a mother of two kids I always look for events that will please all members of my family. Our kids are very active and love the beach. So when we heard about this youth tournament, we all got very excited,” said Jennifer DeGracia of Union City, NJ. At the start of the summer break, when most summer camps are already full for the season and parents are running out of vacation days, but still wish to spend some family time with their offspring, Soccer Resort comes in with a great solution.
Registration is open for Boys and Girls divisions, as well as Adult Men’s, Women’s and Coed through Friday, June 13. Interested teams should contact Niall Swan at travel@soccerresort.com or call (718) 433-2452. More information can be found at www.soccerresort.com and go to Beach Blitz Connecticut.
