The 14th annual Discover Bank Delaware Marathon and Running Festival is slated for May 13-14, 2017. The 5K and 1.2 mile fun run will take place on Saturday the 13th, followed by Sunday’s marathon, half marathon and relays.

Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) announced today it has acquired the Discover Bank Delaware Marathon and Running Festival. The annual event consists of numerous concurrent distances, including the Discover Bank marathon, Patterson Schwartz Real Estate half marathon, Horizon Services four-person relay, Michelob Ultra eight-person relay, and a 1.2 mile fun run.

Lee Corrigan, President of CSE, said, “Our staff looks forward to building on the successes Wayne Kursh and his team have experienced to date. We’ll rely on CSE’s additional marketing and operational expertise to help grow this local jewel into an even better runner experience.”

“After meeting Lee Corrigan and the staff of CSE I knew right away that I had chosen the right company to take our Delaware Marathon to a higher level and for it to continue to grow,” said Wayne Kursh, Chairman, CEOraces2run. “Race participants will continue to enjoy all the festivities that go along with making this event Delaware’s premier running festival.”

Kursh will serve as a consultant with the event to assist with the transition of management teams and maintain continuity.

Corrigan Sports Enterprises has earned its national reputation by owning and operating some of the largest events in the endurance industry, including the Baltimore Running Festival which will be contested for its 16th time this fall on October 15th in Charm City.

The Delaware marathon course consists of two 13.1-mile loops of historic downtown Wilmington. The event starts and finishes along the scenic waterfront at Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park.

A study by Kent State University’s Department of Economics determined the event has an annual economic impact of $2.3 million annually. The event’s charity beneficiaries include the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center at Christiana Care Health System, the YMCA of Delaware, B+ Foundation, and Girls on the Run Delaware to name a few.
