The U.S. MNT makes its last push ahead of its would-be Final Round of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying with a return to iconic RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 11 to face New Zealand. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET, and the match will be broadcast on the ESPN networks and UniMas.
The game will mark just the third time the U.S. has played the five-time Oceania Football Association champions. Just as this game serves as a tune-up for the Hexagonal, the two nations last met in the MNT’s final warm-up game before heading to the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup in France. On that day in Richmond, the U.S. sported retro uniforms while collecting a 2-1 win. Four years earlier, the U.S. defeated the Kiwis by the same 2-1 score line in their opening match of the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup in Mexico.
One of the most storied venues in U.S. Soccer history, RFK Stadium has hosted more MNT matches than any other venue in the world. The loud and proud fan support in the nation’s capital has served the U.S. well, with the MNT going 15-3-5 in 23 games at RFK.
With the MNT in the midst of a nine-match, 14-year unbeaten run at RFK Stadium, come be a part of extending the streak and send the U.S. off to the Final Round of World Cup Qualifying in style.
