2022 Florida Senior Games Ready to Take the Field on Florida's Sports Coast

The 2022 Florida Senior Games, presented by Humana, is an Olympic-style competition for athletes age 50 and over.  Now in its 31st year, the Florida Senior Games, is a program of the Florida Sports Foundation, the state's lead organization in promoting and developing Florida’s sports industry and tourism opportunities, presented in conjunction with Florida’s Sports Coast.

COMPETITION DATES: Saturday, December 3 through Sunday, December 11, 2022. An Opening Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting will be held on Friday, December 2, at the Wiregrass Ranch Sports Campus of Pasco County, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
 
LOCATIONS: Competition for 19 sports and events will be held at 9 different sites throughout Florida’s Sports Coast/Pasco County. Events will also be hosted in Broward, Hillsborough and Polk counties.

REGISTRATION: Online registration, competition and hotel information can be found at the individual sport pages of www.floridaseniorgames.com. Athletes who have previously registered for the Florida Senior Games through the FUSE Sports registration system can go directly to http://florida.fusesport.com/registration/1729  to register. 

Registration is open through Monday, November 21, with the exception of Pickleball, Racquetball and Track and Field. Those sports have reached capacity.  Registration was made available for competing athletes, beginning September 1, 2022. 

EXPECTED TO COMPETE:  Over 2,000 athletes age 50 and over are expected to compete in the 2022 Florida Senior Games. In previous years, athletes from over 200 Florida cities, over 40 states, Canada and the Caribbean Islands competed.

ECONOMIC IMPACT: Since the 1999 Sunshine State Games and the Florida Senior Games State Championships transition to the Florida Sports Foundation, amateur sports opportunities have been provided for more than 500,000 athletes of all ages through the annual Olympic-style Sports Festivals.  The in-state Amateur Sports programs provide almost $10 million annually in economic impact to more than 25 local communities.

GETTING TO THE FLORIDA SENIOR GAMES:  Florida residents must qualify at one of 21 Florida Senior Games Series Qualifiers.  Series Qualifiers are held January through April and September through November.  Athletes residing in Florida must finish in the top five of their age group in their sport to qualify for certain sports of the Florida Senior Games. Out-of-state athletes are not required to qualify.

SPORTS OF THE FLORIDA SENIOR GAMES: Certain sports and events require a qualifying performance at a Florida Senior Games Series Qualifier while others have no qualifying standards and are open to all senior athletes wishing to participate.

Archery, Badminton, Basketball (3-on-3), Dominos, FootGolf, Horseshoes, Padel, Powerlifting, Power Walk, Race Walk, Racquetball, 5K Road Race and Volleyball are open competitions with no qualifying performance required.

Sports needing a qualifying performance include Basketball Shooting, Bowling, Cycling, Golf,  Pickleball, Shuffleboard, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, and Track & Field.  

NATIONAL SENIOR GAMES QUALIFYING: The 2022 Florida Senior Games IS A QUALIFIER for the 2023 National Senior Games being held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, July 7-18, 2023.

With the annual Games being held in Florida's Sports Coast through 2024, Pasco County becomes the ninth Florida community to host the Florida Senior Games for multiple years.
