30th SimplyIOA Corporate 5K Coming May 9 to Lake Eola

Central Florida companies are teaming up to get fit and help others at the 30th SimplyIOA Corporate 5k presented by Key HR on Thursday, May 9th at Lake Eola Park.
 

The 30th SimplyIOA Corporate 5k is a unique 3.1-mile run/walk event where Florida’s business and non-profit organizations have formed teams to promote workplace wellness, camaraderie, and friendly competition since 1995. 

A team includes groups of four individuals under a company or organization – participating in person or virtually.  More than 500 local companies will run or walk plus give to our neighbors in need. Proceeds benefit the Track Shack Youth Foundation and Second Harvest Food Bank.
 

Race time is 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 9th.  The 5k is held during the work week and the next day there’s storytelling and reliving the fun of running, walking and outdoor networking. This year over 12,000 runners and walkers will complete a new 3.1-mile course through downtown due to the Robinson Street improvement project.
 

“Forward thinking businesses came together in 1995 to create a corporate fitness movement.  Now 30 years later the SimplyIOA Corporate 5k is Orlando’s largest run/walk and office party,” says Betsy Hughes, co-owner of Track Shack, the event producer.
 

Successful employee wellness programs begin with Corporate 5k Team Captains like Debbie Castagnola. Debbie Castagnola, the City of Orlando’s Wellness Coordinator and has been the driving force behind Team Orlando’s Corporate 5k team for 29 years.  Her role is to inspire City employees to a healthy lifestyle by providing fitness challenges and programs, offering encouragement, and making wellness opportunities available to staff. “Come February each year, my co-workers know I’ll be asking them to sign up to run or walk the Corporate 5k,” says Castagnola.
