The 2014 Super Y League North American Finals presented by Nike are set to begin on Friday morning at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, as top young players and youth teams from throughout North America will compete for championships in 12 divisions during the elite five-day event.

The tournament, which features the top performers from the 2014 SYL regular season, will attract coaches and scouts from U.S. Youth National Teams and top colleges from throughout the country, as 120 teams in boys and girls divisions compete for championships. Many top colleges and universities are sending representatives to the Finals, including Wake Forest University, the University of Miami, the University of Central Florida and San Jose State University, among others.

“We can’t wait for the 2014 SYL Finals to kick off at what we consider to be the top venue for an elite youth tournament in the country,” USL Senior Director of Youth League Development Brett Luy said. “The quality of the teams and the overall level of talent should make for a highly successful event for the players, coaches and college and national team scouts who will converge on IMG Academy this weekend.”

Created in 1999 with 12 teams, the Super Y League now includes more than 80 clubs from throughout the United States and Canada with upwards of 500 teams competing in the league every summer. Many of the clubs participating in the league are now affiliated with the top professional and amateur men’s and women’s sides of USL and Major League Soccer, providing an extensive development structure that mirrors those found in traditional soccer powers.

Six age groups in both the boys and girls divisions, ranging from U-12 to U-17, will begin three days of group play on Friday, December 5. The semifinals will then take place on Monday, with the tournament’s championship games set for Tuesday.
