Athletes age 50 and over can begin their Florida Senior Games journey at one of 12 Local Senior Games Qualifiers between the months of September and November, en route to the Florida Senior Games, presented by Humana, December 1-10, in Florida’s Sports Coast/Pasco County.
The local Senior Games competitions provide athletes aged 50 and over a starting point, or a starting over point, for those choosing to pursue an active lifestyle. The Florida Senior Games and its Local Qualifiers also provide competitors a sense of community and camaraderie found only in sports and athletic competitions.
Besides the sports that advance to the Florida Senior Games and National Senior Games, the Local Qualifying events also feature events outside Florida Senior Games menus. The Palm Coast Senior Games offers Bocce and Surfing, the Pensacola Senior Games has Disc Golf and Murbles, those in the Jacksonville Senior Games can compete in Line Dancing and Mah Jong and the Tampa Bay Active Games for Life have Billiards and Darts.
Sports requiring a qualifying performance (a top five finish in their age group) at the local level to advance to the Florida Senior Games include Basketball Shooting, Bowling, Golf, Pickleball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis and Track and Field.
The Florida Senior Games also features sports that do not require a qualifying performance. Athletes can compete in Archery, Badminton, 3-on-3 Basketball, Cycling (Time Trials and Road Race), Horseshoes, Powerlifting, Power Walk, Race Walk, Racquetball, 5K Road Race, Shuffleboard and Volleyball, without a qualifying performance.
The 32nd Annual Florida Senior Games is in the second of three years in Florida’s Sports Coast/Pasco County. Registration and competition information is available, through November 14, at www.floridaseniorgames.com/sports. Entry fees vary by sport.
