The 30th Annual Great Floridian Triathlon will be held October 23-25, 2020. Hundreds of athletes are expected to participate in the events, which include the USA Triathlon Ultra-Distance National Championship.
The Great Floridian Triathlon (GFT) is the nation’s longest running independent (non-Ironman licensed) full distance triathlon. Since its inception in 1991, the GFT has attracted athletes from all 50 states and more than 30 countries. The GFT is known around the world for being one of the most challenging full distance races in the country. The tremendous support offered by the City of Clermont, Lake County, neighboring communities, residents and businesses ensures a world class race experience with small town charm.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to host the USA Triathlon Ultra-Distance National Championship during the 30th running of the Great Floridian Triathlon,” exclaimed Fred Sommer, event founder and long-time race director. “The national championship designation is a testament to the event’s rich history and longevity, the strong community support, and the passion of the event management team.”
This year’s race will be conducted under strict COVID safety and social distancing guidelines. Lake County residents and visitors are encouraged to come out to support the athletes as they participate in triathlon events. Events are free to watch and spectators are welcome at any point along the course.
Lake County residents can expect to see bikers and runners on local roads Saturday, as well as an increase in visitors to Clermont Waterfront Park throughout the weekend. Impacted roads include South Lake Trail, North Ridge Boulevard, Hancock Trail, Sugarloaf Mountain Road, CR 455, CR 561 and others.
