MLE Taps Florida for Ice Cream Eating Championship

On April 12, 2014, victory will be sweet in Lakeland, Florida, when Major League Eating offers the Magnify Credit Union World Ice Cream Eating Championship. The event will be held as part of the 2014 Florida Ice Cream Festival.  MLE eaters are encouraged to sign up for this delicious challenge of man (and woman) vs. everyone's favorite dessert.

Those who attended the inaugural 2013 event will know that the Magnify Credit Union World Ice Cream Eating Championship is one of the most demanding events on the MLE circuit. The richness of the ice cream. The sweetness of its kiss. The inevitable brain freeze. Six grueling (but delicious) minutes of competitive eating action await.

Joey "Jaws" Chestnut's world record-setting 2013 performance of 1.81 gallons—that's 14.5 pints, people—will be hard to top. Do you have what it takes to push yourself to the limit? This event is a test of both mind and body. Who wants it the most? At the table or in the crowd, this is The Magnify Credit Union World Ice Cream Eating Championship—don't you ever miss it!

This contest will take place at 4pm Eastern on Saturday April 12, 2014 at the SUN'n FUN Grounds at Lakeland Linder Airport, 4175 Medulla Rd, in beautiful Lakeland, FL

A total prize purse $4,300 awaits the winners.

About The Florida Ice Cream Festival: The 2013 Florida Ice Cream Festival was only the beginning! We are pleased to announce that this year's event will be held at the SUN'n FUN grounds on April 12 and 13, 2014. SUN'n FUN is known for its annual "Fly-in" and airshow and is located at the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport. This beautiful location has the capacity to handle the large crowds expected at the 2014 Florida Ice Cream Festival!

This two-day event will provide attendees with more activities, more ice cream and food vendors, and the return of the World Ice Cream Eating Championship, featuring the world's #1-ranked eater and defending champion, Joey "Jaws" Chestnut. The second day of the festival will promote Family and Church Day, with performances by area Christian bands, along with vendors, activities and events from the first day.

Proceeds from the Florida Ice Cream Festival benefit the Magnify Life Foundation, which funds the TrueWealth-KIDS, a financial literacy program for all fifth-grade classes in Polk County, and the Central Florida Aerospace Academy (CFAA), a Polk County Schools Academy located at Linder Regional Airport. CFAA students are challenged to reach high levels of achievement in science, technology, mathematics and engineering in preparation for high-tech careers in the fields of aviation and aerospace.
