News-Journal's Best of Preps event recognizes area youth, May 22 The News-Journal's Best of Volusia/Flagler Preps Awards will be held at the Ocean Center May 22. This event celebrates and honors the accomplishments of the 2017-2018 All-Star high school student athletes.
Grant Hill - a NCAA champion, seven-time NBA All-Star and sports broadcaster - is the event’s featured speaker. The doors open at 6 p.m., and the event starts at 6:30 p.m. General admission tickets, which may be purchased for $50, include dinner, the awards ceremony and presentation. Thousands of youth return to area for Passion Camp, June 11-14 Thousands of young people will converge on Daytona Beach to enjoy sun, surf and activities at the Ocean Center June 11-14 as they attend Passion Camp, which is hosted by Passion Conferences and Passion City Church. Sadie Robertson and Chad Veach will be joining Passion Camp this June, along with Louie Giglio, Passion Music, Brad Jones and Crowder Music. Passion Camp is open to student groups. Registration is required.

Athletes gear up for Bacon Beatdown, June 22-24 Hard 2 Kill Athletics will present The Bacon Beatdown Crossfit Competition June 22-24 at the Ocean Center. Registration is open for this annual competition, which features the Bacon Beatdown Food Truck Festival, Craft Beer Festival, competition and more. The Bacon Beatdown has been held at the Ocean Center since 2014. More than 4,000 people attended last year's event. For more information, visit www.thebaconbeatdown.com.
Showbiz National Talent Competition, June 23-28 Nearly 4,000 participants ages 4-18 and their supporters are expected to attend the Showbiz National Talent Competition at the Ocean Center June 23-28. In its 22nd year at the Ocean Center, Showbiz is the premier championship dance competition involving dance studios from across the country. The championship is one of three this year in the United States. This event is open to the public, and admission is free. For more information, visit www.showbiztalent.com.
