The Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame will honor the Orange Bowl Committee’s 80th President and Chair, Sean Pittman, for his service and impact to Palm Beach County through sports. Pittman was installed as the first Orange Bowl President from Palm Beach County in January of 2018. Over the next year, Pittman’s leadership benefited Palm Beach County immeasurably. Pittman will be recognized at the 43rd Annual Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame Celebration, presented by Lytal, Reiter, Smith, Ivey & Fronrath. The event will be held at the Palm Beach County Convention Center on Monday, March 25 at 5pm.
Pittman directed the Orange Bowl Committee’s continued commitment to the South Florida community, including a full slate of events, highlighted by the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl on December 29, 2018. The Orange Bowl Committee’s presence continued to expand throughout South Florida due to a variety of community projects, academic programs, scholarships, and youth sports initiatives.
Most notably, the Orange Bowl delivered its fifth Legacy Gift to the South Florida Community and its first to Palm Beach County, under Pittman’s leadership. The Orange Bowl Committee and Palm Beach County partnered on a $3 million renovation of the existing football stadium at Glades Pioneer Park in Belle Glade, which is a Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation facility. Renovations included a world-class synthetic turf field, an electronic scoreboard, an entry monument, fencing, walkways, signage, and a remodel of the playground. On December 19th, Orange Bowl Field at Glades Pioneer Park opened. The momentous renovation of Glades Pioneer Park, not only uplifted Belle Glade, but delivered Palm Beach County’s western communities one of the premier football fields in all South Florida.
Orange Bowl Field at Glades Pioneer Park serves as the playing site for several teams from the Glades Youth Football League, which is a current member of the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance (OBYFA). In addition, many current and former NFL players from the area have used the field to conduct youth football camps. This park renovation will enable area youth from Belle Glade, Pahokee, and South Bay to carry on the incredible legacy of football and sports.
