Multiple weekends of sport shooting events highlight the 2019 Sunshine State Games Shooting calendar.
Bullseye and Precision Pistol events, at the Hernando Sportsman’s Club in Brooksville and Wyoming Antelope Club in Clearwater, challenge shooters with one-handed shooting from different ranges over a variety of times.
Bigbore and Smallbore Cowboy Rifle Silhouette, at the Seminole County Gun & Archery Club in Geneva and the Hunter’s Pistol Silhouette event at the Chuluota Sportsmen’s Club, shoot at figurines of chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams from various distances.
The Trap Shooting events, at the Skyway Trap and Skeet Club in St. Petersburg, require the accuracy and skill to repeatedly aim, fire and break the 4 quarter-inch discs which are hurled through the air at a speed of 42mph, simulating the flight path of a bird fleeing a hunter.
The final event of the 2019 SSG Sport Shooting Calendar, the USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association), at the Volusia Hunt & Gun Club in New Smyrna Beach, offers disciplines with a variety of weapons. Practical shooting involves a rapid-fire, on-the-move, style of shooting at targets.
Registration fees begin at $25 and vary by event. On-site registration is available at all events if slots are available. Registration is limited in Smallbore and Bigbore Pistol, International Double Style Trap, International Style Trap and USAPA.
