The Super Y-League announced today that the 2014 North American Finals presented by Nike will be held December 5-9 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. It will mark the third consecutive year that IMG Academy’s world-class facilities have been used as the home of the North American Finals.
For the second consecutive year the SYL North American Finals will be a GotSoccer ranked tournament, with participants able to earn crucial national ranking points. Coaches from top men’s and women’s colleges from throughout North America will once again be in attendance to scout talent, along with U.S. National Team staff and professional academy scouting staff.
“Coming off our two most successful events in the Super Y-League’s 15-year history, we are excited about returning to IMG Academy to host some of the top boys and girls teams from throughout North America,” USL Senior Director of Youth Properties Drew Hoffman said. “The level of competition was fantastic in 2013, and we expect the road to national championships to be even tougher this season. The SYL Finals have also grown into an important event on the summer scouting schedule and we expect an even greater turnout of college coaches in 2014.”
Created in 1999 with 12 teams, the Super Y-League now includes nearly 80 clubs from throughout the United States and Canada with an average of 500 teams competing in the league every summer. Many of the clubs participating in the league are now affiliated with the top professional and amateur men’s and women’s sides of USL and Major League Soccer, providing a strong system of player development that closely replicates those in more soccer oriented nations throughout the world.
Between 8-16 boys teams and 4-12 girls teams will qualify for the 2014 Super Y-League North American Finals in U12 through U17 age divisions. Teams will compete in three days of group play December 5-7, with semifinals and finals set for December 8-9. The 2014 Super Y-League regular season kicked off this week.
