Ahead of the Super Y League's 21st year of operation, the league has announced that the highly-anticipated fourth USL Experience will be hosted by the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2019.
Preceded by hosts Cincinnati, San Antonio and Phoenix, the USL Experience comes to Tampa Bay to offer an elite multi-day residential event to introduce SYL’s top young players to the rigors of a professional soccer environment.
“We’re looking forward to bringing the USL Experience to the Tampa Bay region in 2019," Rowdies Chief Operating Officer Lee Cohen said. “The level of youth soccer around Tampa Bay and throughout the country continues to rise and we’re excited to bring these prospects into our professional environment to show them what they’re striving for. With the USL office based in our backyard and the two brands working together, it will be a valuable learning experience for everyone involved and we’re grateful for the opportunity.”
72 of the nation's top youth talents will be selected to take part in the exciting experience, which is tabbed to take place in early April. Players received invitations to the event starting in January 2019.
The USL Experience provides additional educational programming, such as workshops and presentations, a stadium and facility tour, access to Tampa Bay Rowdies players and staff, competitive training, match play and much more. They will have meals, lodging and training gear provided at no cost.
“The Rowdies have a very exciting future,” said USL President Jake Edwards. “There is new ownership in place, and a very professional atmosphere. As such, Super Y League’s young talents will benefit greatly from this opportunity and I fully anticipate a superb event in our fourth year running USL Experience.”
The Rowdies have competed in USL since 2017 and reached the Eastern Conference semifinals during their first season in the league. The club is one of the most renown in North American soccer, with Tampa Bay's soccer origins in the United States dating back to 1975.
A part of United Soccer Leagues, LLC, which also operates the United Soccer League – soon to be the USL Championship – the new professional USL League One and the Premier Development League – soon to be USL League Two – the Super Y League features a summer platform with an annual North American Championship in December.
Super Y League: The Super Y League, the country's longest-running national youth league, provides approximately 600 teams and 10,500 players an unparalleled experience through its advanced player tracking, strong development resources and college soccer connections. Focusing on the important development ages of 10-18 for both boys and girls, the Super Y League features a summer platform, followed by an annual North American Championship in December. Founded in 1999, the Super Y League has served as an established pathway to college and professional soccer as players are evaluated during the league's Regional Scouting Series. A select group is also chosen for the highly-touted annual USL Experience, a multi-day residential event that follows a professional training format and an environment exclusively alongside one of the USL's established organizations.
