More than 1,500 age-group athletes are set to compete at the USA Triathlon Multisport National Championships in Miami, Florida, an inaugural event that features five national championship competitions over two days on November, 10-11.

National titles are up for grabs in the disciplines of aquathlon (swim-run), long-course triathlon, long-course duathlon (run-bike-run), long-course aquabike (swim-run) and international-distance aquabike (bike-run). The weekend marks the first time all five races have been held in the same venue at the same time, rather on different dates and locations across the United States.

The event is hosted by MultiRace, ‘the largest multiple-sport event management company in the state of Florida’, as part of the annual Miami Man Triathlon. Miami Man is a familiar USA Triathlon National Championships host, having held both the Aquabike and Long-Course Triathlon National Championships in 2016 and 2017.

The course for all races is centred at Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park in Miami-Dade county. Athletes will swim in Larry and Penny’s Lake and bike on paved roads through unincorporated farmland areas of Redland, Florida. The run course winds through the palm tree-lined Zoo Miami, passing various animal exhibits before returning to Larry and Penny Park for the finish.

Racing will begin Saturday with the Aquathlon National Championships, organized as a 1,000m swim followed by a 5k run.

The action continues Sunday with the Long-Course Duathlon National Championships (6.2-mile run, 56-mile bike, 13.1-mile run), Long-Course Triathlon National Championships (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, 13.1-mile run), Long-Course Aquabike National Championships (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike) and International-Distance Aquabike National Championships (0.6-mile swim, 22-mile bike). All races on Sunday will take place concurrently.

Miami Man will also offer an Olympic-distance triathlon on Sunday that is not a part of the national championship program, featuring a 0.6-mile swim, 22-mile bike and 6.6-mile run.

In all national championship races except the international-distance aquabike, top finishers in each age group will earn the opportunity to represent Team USA in 2019 ITU Age Group World Championship competition.

The ITU Aquathlon, Aquabike and Long Distance Triathlon World Championships will be held as part of the 2019 ITU Multisport World Championships Festival in Pontevedra, Spain. The 2019 ITU Long Distance Duathlon World Championships will be held in Zofingen, Switzerland.

While the international-distance aquabike is being held as a national championship for the first time, the other four races feature several defending age-group champions.
