PGA Tour Champions returns to Palm Beach County for the 16th annual TimberTech Championship from October 31-November 6. This year’s event will remain in Boca Raton but will shift to Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club while its longtime host, the Broken Sound Club’s Old Course, undergoes renovations.
As the longest-running professional golf tournament in Palm Beach County, the TimberTech Championship will act as the second event in the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs, attracting the world’s top 54 senior golfers. The golfers will compete for their share of the $2.2 million prize money and a spot in the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
The TimberTech Championship is expected to attract another star-studded field, headlined by defending champion Steven Alker. Prior to Alker, the previous three TimberTech Championship winners were former major champions: Darren Clarke (2020), Hall of Famer Bernhard Langer (2019), and Mark Calcavecchia (2018).
Langer and Clarke, who recently became the fourth player to sweep The Open Championship and the Senior Open Championship, are expected to play in the TimberTech Championship, along with Padraig Harrington, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Miguel Angel Jimenez, and Colin Montgomerie.
The Palm Beach County Sports Commission projects the tournament will again create a strong economic impact for Palm Beach County. In 2021 the event attracted spectators from around the world and generated nearly $1.2 million in visitor spending for Palm Beach County. In addition to the in-person attendance, viewers from around the world will see The Palm Beaches showcased each day with television coverage provided by the Golf Channel.
With a PGA Tour Champions fixture on The Palm Beaches’ professional golf resume that also includes a PGA Tour event (The Honda Classic), it is easy to see why Palm Beach County is Florida's Golf Capital®. The Palm Beaches are home to over 160 picturesque golf courses and a year-round climate that makes it the perfect place to play. Palm Beach County has also been home to many premier amateur golf events including the Walker Cup and several NCAA national and regional championships.
