Final Designs Revealed for Rome Tennis Center of Georgia

Designs for the Rome Tennis Center of Georgia are now finalized and the ground breaking is planned for June.  The design features fifty-one USTA standard courts including six NCAA regulation courts, three center courts for tournament and collegiate play and one exhibition court that can accommodate seating for 2,000 people. The first phase is planned to be completed by June 2016.

The new plan which has been in development over the course of a year, takes full advantage of the natural topography. “The terrain created opportunities for beautiful design with views of rolling hills, streams and wetlands,” said architect, Mark Cochran.  The 3,846 square-foot club house features an expansive viewing deck that overlooks the terraced courts.

All courts are lighted with shade cabanas for players.  Twelve courts will be striped to accommodate 10&Under tennis courts. The design also allows for future development of six NCAA regulation indoor tennis courts.

“We are a big tennis community about to become even bigger,” said Sammy Rich, Rome City Manager.  “The Rome Tennis Center of Georgia is about increasing economic impact. The facility will allow us to not only keep our existing events, but make us more marketable and able to go after additional, larger tournaments as well.”

The master plan incorporates streams and wetlands over an 80 foot drop in elevation across 30.76 acres; the terraced design exceeds ADA standards and does not include any stairs.

The Rome Tennis Center of Georgia is centrally located between Atlanta, Chattanooga and Birmingham; making it a convenient destination for tournaments.  

The Rome Tennis Center of Georgia is made possible through the public/private partnership involving officials from the City of Rome, Berry College, Coosa Valley Tennis Association, Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce, and Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau. Construction is funded by a special-purpose local-option sales tax (SPLOST) which passed in November of 2013 in Floyd County.
