The Hot Dam Olympic Triathlon, Event #5 of the Georgia Triathlon Series, steps off at 7 a.m. on Saturday, September 07, 2013 from West Dam Park - Evans, GA. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the NGB of multisport events in the United States, and is a regulation Olympic triathlon. Distances of each segment are a 1,500-Meter Swim, 40K Bike and 10K Run
Description of segments are as follows:
Swim: The swim takes place in Clarks Hill Lake (also know to South Carolinians as Strom Thurmond Reservior). Participants will have the rush of a sandy beach start prior to the swim of 1500 meters clockwise with bouys being placed at 150-200 meter intervals.
Bike: The bike course is a lollipop shape. Participants will head right out of West Dam Park and onto Clarks Hill Road, this is a five mile section of flat fast riding. After crossing Washington Road participants will veer right onto Cobham Road. The next turn will be a left onto Ray Owens Road which will take participants towards Appling, GA. Participants will the take a hard left onto Scotts Ferry Road which turns into Clarks Hill Road, taking participants back to the transition area. Overall this course is rolling with one aid station located around the 12 mile mark.
Run: The run is an out and back course, which will take participants back down Clarks Hill Road and into the neighboring park. The course will be moderately shaded, fairly flat, with aid stations each mile.
All participants must complete the race in under 4 hours 00 minutes. Race officials reserve the right to pull a participant off the course if it appears as though that participant will not be able to meet the above time requirements. This is a safety issue, our permits, volunteers, police, EMS, etc. are only reserved for the above time restrictions.
Entry in the Hot Dam International Triathlon is open to individuals 14 years of age or older.
The Hot Dam International Triathlon will be timed using the ChampionChip Timing System. (5 splits provided)
USA Triathlon members must show a valid USAT membership card or pay the one day membership fee, $10 cash only.
