The 2016 Hawaii Open presented by The Hawai'i Tourism Authority, a WTA 125k Series Event, will be held November 20-27, 2016, at the Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park.
The Hawaii Open presented by the Hawai'i Tourism Authority, a Women's Tennis Association (WTA) tennis tournament, is set for this Sunday Nov. 20 – Nov. 27 at the Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park in Waipahu, HI.
The inaugural Hawaii Open will be Hawaii's largest professional tennis tournament. Featured is a 32-player singles main draw, an 8-player qualifying draw and an 8-team doubles draw.
Among the players are Sabine Lisicki, Wimbledon finalist and holder of the world-record for the fastest serve by a female tennis player, and China's No. 1 WTA tennis player Shuai Zhang. WTA veteran Daniela Hantuchova and Carlsbad Classic finalist Nicole Gibbs will join rising WTA players such as American favorites CiCi Bellis and Ingrid Neel.
Qualifying rounds begin on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 10:00 a.m. Qualifying day tickets are $5. From Monday, Nov. 21, through the championship match on Sunday, Nov. 27, individual day and night session tickets range from $18 to $80. Parking is free.
The Hawaii Open will host a player's draw party at Tiki's Grill and Bar at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 6 p.m. The singles and doubles main draws will be announced. Featured players are Sabine Lisicki, Shuai Zhang, Daniela Hantuchova, and Nicole Gibbs. Tickets are available online for advance purchase only.
Players are at practice on the newly resurfaced hard courts at the Pasty T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park. British WTA player Katie Swan, a Hawaii Open main draw wildcard, said, "I'm really excited about being given the opportunity to play in the WTA here in Hawaii. It's a fantastic location for a tournament at the end of the year."
The Hawaii Open has partnered with local nonprofit Hawaii Foodbank. The tournament will serve as a drop off location for donations throughout the week of Thanksgiving. Military Appreciation Day is Monday, Nov. 21. Free grounds passes will be offered to current and retired service members with a valid military ID. Kid's Day is Tuesday, November 22. Children 12 and under will receive free grounds passes.
